Rinaldi Racing is returning to the VLN for the 2017 racing season and this time the Ferrari will be on the Nordschleife.

The team from Mendig will be in charge of the Ferrari 488 GT3 from Wochenspiegel Team Monschau. Georg Weiss, Oliver Kainz and Jochen Krumbach will share the driving duties behind the wheel of the Italian car. The trio will be supported by Mike Stursberg at individual races.

After taking part in VLN 8 last year, the team decided to tackle the full VLN season in 2017. “VLN 8 was a very good test run for everyone. The drivers got used to the car very well and got on with it straight away. Considering that all of them have never sat behind the wheel of the Ferrari 488 GT3 before, it was a successful result for the whole team,” said team boss Michele Rinaldi.

The driver trio will start with the Ferrari 488 GT3 starting number #22 in the SP9 class in the ProAm classification.

Wochenspiegel Team Monschau will also field a Porsche Cayman 981 Clubsport GT4 in the SP10 class. The driver pairing is made up of drivers Rene Offermann and Dirk Riebensahm.

In addition to the VLN event, the Wochenspiegel Team Monschau together with Rinaldi Racing also plans to compete in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring and the associated qualifying race. The driver pairing of Weiß, Kainz, Krumbach, and Stursberg will also be retained for this event.

In addition, an entry in the Creventic 24-hour series is planned: At the end of August, the Wochenspiegel Team Monschau and Rinaldi Racing will head to the 24-hour race Portimao in Portugal.

Michele Rinaldi: ” We are very happy about the cooperation with Wochenspiegel Team Monschau. It will be a great challenge for everyone and we are all looking forward to it. The driver pairing around Georg Weiß is very promising and we will see where we will place in the new Pro-Am classification. Many thanks to Georg Weiß for putting his trust in Ferrari and in Rinaldi Racing for the 2017 VLN season.”
