Sobering result at the Nürburgring
Last weekend the qualifying race of the 24h race Nürburgring was on the agenda of Rinaldi Racing with WTM Racing.
The team travelled to the event with the newly built Ferrari 488 GT3. Georg Weiss, Oliver Kainz and Jochen Krumbach shared the steering wheel work on the number 22 car.
On Saturday morning, the Ferrari had its roll-out on the GP circuit during the test and set-up runs, where everything worked. This was followed by free practice in the afternoon, where the drivers were able to get used to the track conditions.
During the first qualifying session late on Saturday afternoon, the drivers were able to get an idea of the track conditions as night fell. Weiss, Kainz and Krumbach completed their compulsory laps and finished in 26th place.
The second qualifying session started on Sunday morning, with the #22 Ferrari moving up to 19th place.
The qualifying race on the Nürburgring/Nordschleife started punctually at 12:00. Oliver Kainz took over the start and was able to improve a few positions by the time of the pit stop. Jochen Krumbach took over the second stint. With solid lap times, Krumbach was able to work his way up to 12th place. At the next stop, he handed over the Italian car to Georg Weiss. After a few laps, the Ferrari, unfortunately, had to be parked due to adverse conditions.
Michele Rinaldi: “Not the result we had hoped for. The Ferrari runs well and the drivers feel very comfortable with the car on the track. Nevertheless, we have gained new insights and now hope to attack at the 24h race at the Nürburgring at the end of May.”
